Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education.

Cultural Complex.

This proposal is not about designing a building, is about designing a cultural and educational complex, a kind of micro city where built volumes are specialized.
This is a very important point because in this way the city really takes part in the proposal. Pavement, public space, green floor… every urban element invades and colonizes the site.
The proposal is aware that is part of the city.
Although buildings are separated, the complex has a common base, which is part of the Education Hub Space program, creating a shared space that interconnects every specialized building.

Meeting point / Big cultural forum.

As buildings are separated from each other, they create an empty public space at first level that will define a big meeting point for visitors. At the same time this open space interconnects every building entry.
A forum where visitors can have a seat on their way to the shared lobby occupies the heart of this meeting point.
This is a perfect place for sharing open-air exhibitions, perfor-mances or any cultural event that can take place in this ‘educa-tional city’.

Flows

Standarization.

The proposal has been conceived from the same structural module. A 8,5 x 8,5 m grid allows an efficient structure. It also allows to mod-ule the program so it helps to organize it and optimize circulations. Every space has it owns natural lighting and ventilation to have healthy places to work or rest.
This modular system helps to design the future extension very easily until reaching the limit of high.
Four vertical cores include vertical communications and comple-ment the structure of every building.

Configurations

Programmatic specialization

The complex is designed with three buildings, one for each program. The Office Space building, as being the biggest one, has two vol-umes that are interconnected by skywalks.
Every building has its own core, lobby and communications, howev-er the common base at first level allows interconnecting each other. In this way the proposal works like a Complex, every building work independently but they share punctual spaces for special events. In this way the complex is also efficiently sustainable as every program could have different timetable of use, it will not interfere between them.
